Street Directories
If you are searching for people or places in the past whether they be residences or business premises then you may like to try searching street directories.
Street directories list businesses and residences where they are situated on the street. They list both the left and right side of the road and intersections as though one was walking the street. Studying these may assist researchers to pinpoint locations of houses or business premises. Researchers may wish to use Directories in conjunction with other resources such as Aerial Photographs, Historic Photographs, Electoral Rolls or even Newspapers.
The Heritage collection has a good selection of street directories from 1930-1956 covering the Auckland Province which included the Waikato region. Other directories can be accessed on Ancestry.com and on microfiche. Don't forget you can use Ancestry for free at all Hamilton City Libraries.
