A TOPAZ HD Desktop Video Magnifier is available for use at Te Kete Aronui and Central Library.
This device assists visually impaired people with reading and other everyday tasks. It has a magnification range up to 64x, a gliding reading table, and helpful features like Reading Guides, Find, and Freeze Frame. A range of high-contrast colour modes are available, such as the yellow-on-blue pictured here. A unique groove in the reading table holds bottles and other round objects steady for magnification.
Registrations are not required to use the TOPAZ Magnifier. Please speak to a member of the library team before use.

The Poipoi Mahara - Memory Care collection has books and other items to support carers and persons experiencing cognitive decline, most commonly known as dementia.
The collection has materials for all stages of dementia, including literature that is cognitively stimulating for adult readers, photo books, and aids or activities to prompt memories and conversation.

Reading Buddies involves reading to therapy dogs to build confidence with reading. This programme is designed specifically for school-aged children/young people who have print disabilities, dyslexia, or other disabilities which impact upon their reading.
