This flier promotes goods available at Burley’s Drapery Store in 1929, not long before the retirement of Mr Burley after 20 years in business. It was reported in the Waikato Times that a number of farewell events were held, all praising Mr Burley’s well-known generosity. Mr & Mrs Burley then embarked on a world tour before returning to Hamilton, in 1934 his generosity was again reported after discovering the Poppy Day appeal was less than the previous year he donated the difference and pledged a further donation of £100 annually for 10 years to the Returned Soldiers’ Association.
The store was located at 157 Victoria Street, Burley’s Buildings, between Ward St & Garden Place.
