Burley's Drapery Store
Flier for Burley's Drapery Store advertising clothing, manchester, fabric and other items by mail order HCLE_00059
This flier promotes goods available at Burley’s Drapery Store in 1929, shortly before the retirement of Mr Burley. After 20 years in the business. a number of farewell events were held in his honour, each praising Mr Burley’s well-known generosity.
Following his retirement, Mr and Mrs Burley embarked on a world tour before returning to Hamilton. In 1934, his generosity was again recognised when, upon learning that the Poppy Day appeal had raised less than the previous year, he donated the difference and pledged a further £100 annually for ten years to the Returned Soldiers’ Association.
His store was located at 157 Victoria Street, in the Burley’s Buildings, between Ward Street and Garden Place.
