New Zealand Marine News

Marine news tile

This long running periodical produced by the New Zealand Ship and Marine Society has a wealth of information about the various ships that have plied New Zealand waters. To use the words of the editor “the readers of this journal are all interested enough in ships to want to know something more about them. “Marine News” exists to supply that need both in a general way and with regard to specific enquiries about any particular ship” (Volume 14, no. 1 April /May 1962).

Researchers may like to consult Index New Zealand to find out if a particular ship has been mentioned in New Zealand Marine News or any other publication. Issues before 1963 won’t be indexed so one may like to look through these in person. Researchers may be amazed at the information found, photographs of ships, information on shipwrecks, book reviews and news items, small snippets of information may also be gleaned from the regular letters to the editor columns.

The New Zealand Ship and Marine Society has since been wound up but the website has been retained. Issues of the New Zealand Marine News can be viewed via this website.
