Wrap Up: Winter Reading Programmes for 2025
It’s time to reflect on the wonderful journey we had over the past four weeks with our Winter Reading Programmes for children Tooku Maunga – My Mountain, and for teens and adults Ngaa Tae o Hootoke - Colours of Winter.
This year's theme was a celebration of Matariki for our younger readers, emphasising the importance of this time to reflect, remember, and look forward. Children delved into activities that not only entertained but also educated them about the traditions and significance of Matariki.
For our teens and adults, the gemstone theme added a unique sparkle to the reading experience. Participants explored a variety of books that matched the colours of the gemstones listed in the booklet - from fiction that featured questing for treasures to non-fiction exploring the biology to self-help, there was something for everyone.
We want to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part, whether you read one book or a dozen. Your enthusiasm and commitment to reading and supporting your local library during the winter months were truly inspiring. We appreciate the families who encouraged their children to engage with the themes and the adults who found joy and knowledge in the pages of new books.
The planning for Summer Reading Programmes have already begun. Until then, keep exploring new stories! Happy reading!
