Donating to our lending collections
If you would like to donate to our lending collections, ensure your items are in 'as new' condition and meet the other criteria below.
Visit any of our branches and you will be asked to sign a form showing you understand that the Library may sell or dispose of items that aren't incorporated into the collection.
The following items can't be accepted:
- Magazines
- Text books
- Encyclopaedias
- Non-Fiction items older than 5 years
- Items in poor condition
- CDs
If you have a large number of donations
Please contact us beforehand if you have an especially large collection to donate or special circumstances.
How items are selected
Please read our Lending Collections Policy to understand how we select which donations get added to our collection.
If donated materials are not needed or already held in sufficient quantities by Hamilton City Libraries then they will be sold during book sales or disposed of.
Donating to our Archives & Reference Collection
The Libraries serve as a repository and preserver of documentary heritage, while making accessible material which represents the dynamic cultural, historic and creative output of Hamilton, and where appropriate, the wider Waikato region. Complete our Donate to Special Collections form to contact the Archivist and begin the process of donating items.
