Friday Film Review: Parasite
David from Hillcrest Library reviews a film from our DVD Collection each Friday.
This week: Parasite, directed by Bong Joon-ho
If you’ve not heard of Parasite by now, then you’re quite lucky. You have no idea that you are about to watch, quite literally, a perfect film. I’ve always been a fan of South Korean cinema, but I sincerely doubt that anything will match Parasite for quite some time.
Winner of Best Picture at the Oscars before Hollywood shut its doors, Bong Joon-Ho’s film tells the story of a poor family who worm their way into working for an affluent family. What ensues, without any major spoilers, is fast paced, gripping cinema that will have your heart racing, and you sat on the edge of your seat. Without a doubt my favourite film of the last decade, Parasite is a visual spectacle, a bleakly hilarious, well-crafted film that will no doubt leave you desperate for more. If you watch Parasite, and feel you need more Bong Joon-Ho in your life, we also have his films Mother and Snowpiercer in our catalogue. Even if you are someone who doesn’t like subtitled films, I promise you, this will be the film to get you to change your mind. Full of twists, turns, drama, humour, and stunning visuals, Parasite is something to latch on to.
