These 8-week courses aim to teach kids the foundations of playing ukulele and music theory. The “club” has two classes running; Beginner and Intermediate.

Register using the form below to secure your place.

Children under 14 must always be accompanied by a caregiver in our libraries.

Beginners class
This class is aimed at children who are absolute beginners and are eager to try something new! We will focus on foundational ukulele skills and other aspects such as teamwork and collaboration as we work together to prepare a repertoire to play at our final “Uke Jam”.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this programme, participates will have achieved the following:

  • Build confidence in their musical abilities

  • Understand some basic history of the ukulele

  • Be able to name parts of the instrument and how to tune the ukulele

  • Play basic chords and strumming patterns to be able to play a wide range of songs

  • Have a small repertoire of songs to sing

  • Have a foundation in music knowledge, to be able to learn new songs after this course ends

Intermediate Class
This class is aimed at children who already have basic knowledge of the ukulele, and can play the following chords: C, F, Am and G7. This class will extend the children’s learning as we cover more chords and new techniques. We will pair the practical aspect of playing ukulele with some foundational music theory such as reading chord charts, learning basic TAB music, basic note names and rhythms so that participants can build their “musical kete” and apply the teachings of this class to other instruments or contexts.
