As a library member, you are welcome to suggest items for us to add to our collection if you can't find something in the catalogueIf the request is approved, a hold will be placed for you and a reservation charge of $1.50 will apply to adult collection items.

Your purchase request is more likely to be approved if:

  • The date of publication is within the last few years and not more than three months into the future.

  • The item will appeal to other customers as well as you. You can specify in the Request Notes field why you think others would want it too.

If the item you want is older, out-of-print or more specialised, you may be able to access it through an inter-library loan, where you can borrow items from a library in another city.

For both interloans and purchase requests, you need to be a member of Hamilton City Libraries. Log in to your account and click the 'Send a Request' tab:

Select the type of request you want from the drop-down menu, then fill out the form and click Submit.

You can check the status of your request later by going to My Account > Requests. Expand the Recommend for Purchase or Request an Interlibrary Loan heading to see the details of each request. This will be updated with a note from our team to let you know if the request was successful.
