Ever wanted to turn your ideas into real, tangible creations?

In this handson course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of digital sculpting using SculptGL, and how to prepare your models for 3D printing. The course runs fortnightly in a blended learning format, combining online tutorials with inperson design workshops focused on feedback, questions, and creative development.

Your core project is to design and articulate your own taniwha — a guardian figure from Maaori tradition. Taniwha are important kaitiaki in te ao Maaori, associated with the protection of waterways, land, and people. This course is inspired by these traditions and encourages participants to approach their designs with respect, care, and imagination.

The course is facilitated by an experienced educator and VFX artist, with film credits including Avatar.

How the course works:

  • Fortnightly workshops focused on feedback, discussion, and skill development

  • Guided online video tutorials you can follow at your own pace

  • Time to work on your taniwha both during and between sessions

A companion class, Introduction to 3D Sculpting with SculptGL, runs on alternate weeks and is designed to be relaxed taster or entry point into this course.

What you’ll gain:

  • Beginnerfriendly experience in 3D sculpting and 3D printing

  • Transferable creative skills used in games, animation, VFX, and design

  • A unique, articulated 3D model you can take home

  • Confidence to sculpt and develop your own original ideas
