Fostering connection and inclusion one craft at a time
Friday 18 September 2026
On Tuesday, 8 September, Te Tiwha o Pareiiriwhare Dinsdale Library hosted a Multicultural Crafts for Adults session as part of the Council's Welcoming Week celebrations. The theme for 2026 was "Together We Belong."
During the session, participants had the opportunity to explore and create Chinese paper cutting, Japanese origami flowers, and Mexican paper flowers.
They were fortunate to have volunteers from Argentina, Japan, and China sharing their talents, cultures, and skills with members of Dinsdale's diverse community. One compliment received from a customer was, "I feel peaceful after making the crafts."
As a library, the team at Dinsdale were delighted to hear that our customers feel welcomed, included, and a sense of belonging while celebrating Welcoming Week. This feedback reflects the spirit of the theme "Together We Belong" and demonstrates how local libraries can foster connection and inclusion in Aotearoa New Zealand.
