Taking a well earned break
These are Hamilton people on holiday ‘up north’ (we think). It is not stated but looking at the Innes family photos we can confidently say that the chap on the left in his Plus Fours is Norman Innes and, on the right, his younger brother Colin Innes. We also know that the year is either 1935 or 1936. The number plate on the c. 1920 Chevrolet gives the game away. Interesting too, the very different male and female apparel. The men are near enough fully dressed – one with suit jacket and hat in hand. Colin is sans jacket but in long trousers. Then the young ladies. Well, neither is the boys’ sister so we don’t have any clue who they are. In any event, they are enjoying the warmth of the day in rolled up sleeves and shorts. And that’s how you holidayed in those days – nearly a century ago.
