This week’s image is a recently digitised archive, outlining information about shares in The Waikato Shipping Company, Limited from August 1916.

As noted in newspaper advertisements of the time, the company was established to extend shipping on the Waikato River (“which is situated in the most progressive province in the Dominion”), utilising it as a natural highway to transport goods. The intention was to connect the Waikato in the most effective way as few roads had been constructed off the main highway at this time.
