Frankton Railway Station 1975

HCL 15410

This is a very peaceful scene. Could it have been a Sunday? For a busy railway yard there is precious little activity but maybe on a Sunday even Frankton station would be quiet. Look at the shadows from the tall pole and the white electricity box on the left which clearly put the time at about 2.30pm. In such a very beige scene the shining rails stand out and give a wonderful symmetry. At least two workers are on the scene – the tail ends of a Vauxhall Victor FB and a 1940s/50s Ford Prefect show on the left. On the right is the signal box which sat on the platform at the foot of the pedestrian overbridge. It now lives at Minogue Park with the Hamilton miniature train chaps. We can’t tell you if this was winter, but it does have that look of a calm sunny day after the morning frost.
