Times are a changing
Hamilton as we knew it in October 1978. Crawford Street is off to the left having come away from Avalon Drive which goes off to the distance on the right. Crawford Street was a dead-end street giving access to the railway goods yards. It does the same job now, but maps suggest it is now longer. There is industrial mess all along Avalon Drive in this photo. A Commer Superpoise lorry in the yard by the hall is a receptacle for what appears to be large pieces of steel scrap. On the left, the large white building is the Nawton Hall. The landscape in this area has changed considerably not the least due to the widening of Avalon Drive. About the intersection shown is now a very large traffic roundabout complex so this intersection has been subsumed. Where then did Nawton Hall go?
