Camping by the lakeside
A few weeks ago, we showed a photograph of four young people on holiday. This image may be a wee bit later and it is said to be near Taupo. We don’t know the location, but the hills suggest the ‘other side’ of the lake. Interesting in this image are the tent, the car parked in the tent and the chap in his suit. The tent has branding on the flaps. On the left it is clear it came from F.A.C., Waikato’s major stack & station agency. In the 1965 phone book they list a Canvas & Leather Dept. Note the poles are external which was unusual. The remainder of the branding is not legible. The chap is not dressed as we would nowadays for holiday mode, and he has a cigarette which was very common many years ago. Now the question: Did they sleep with the car in the tent? Guess you would for a 1939 Chev.
