Did you know the Queen and Prince Phillip visited Hamilton for the first time, as part of their royal tour of New Zealand on December 30,1953.  More than 25,000 people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the Queen and Prince who made a full two days of their visit to the city. This visit was momentous for Hamilton as the royal couple stayed the night at the Hamilton Hotel and carried out various royal visits around the city. This was the first time a reigning monarch had visited New Zealand and was the first signing of a reigning Monarch in the Council Visitors book.
