National Poetry Day 2019

National Poetry Day was established in 1997. A one-day national poetry event extravaganza, it is held on the fourth Friday of August each year. In 2019, Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day will take place nationwide on 23 August.

This year, Hamilton City Libraries are hosting the Kirikiriroa Poetry Competition and the Kirikiriroa Slam event.

Kirikiriroa Poetry Competition

Hamilton City Libraries, Poets Alive, and Poppies Hamilton are celebrating Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day 2019 with a poetry competition.

Have your poem published online and be in to win a prize and the glory.

Winners will be announced on Tuesday 20 August 2019 and invited to read their winning entries at the Kirikiriroa Slam on Billstickers National Poetry Day on Friday 23 August.

This is an opportunity to share your poetry with a live audience. The competition is judged by nationally and internationally published poets Vaughan Rapatahana, Elaine Riddell and Mere Taito.

The winning poems will be published on our website and Facebook page.
